This Day In Grateful Dead History – Greek Theater 1982-05-23   1 comment

Wonderful show.  Great recording and sound mix by the great Charlie Miller of a very strong show..  A very relaxed Jerry Garcia in strong voice front the Dead for a very clean, exciting  show.  This recording is the third night of a three show run at the Greek Theater.  Listen to it on the Internet Archive here.

First Set: Love Songs and Truckers Favorites.  A strong set, with a well done Shakedown Street.  Bobby and Brent sing alternate verses on  Little Red Rooster and Bob closes the first set with Let It Grow. Nice.

Second Set. 1982 is not 1977, Brent Mydland is not Keith Godchaux and Captain Trips is firmly in control and  driving the bus here with an acid hand.   Scarlet Begonias / Fire on the Mountain opens the second set and this is not your mothers classic SB/FOTM.  Insanely great Jam on SB and a very fast, short FOTM. WOW!  The  Ship of Fools –> Estimated Prophet –> Eyes of the World is wonderful.  Go, Jerry, Go. A very mellow rendition of Casey Jones ends the second set and an outstanding Brokedown Palace sends us home into the night.  A must listen.

Great Photographs of this show on the Grateful Dead Berkeley Page on Media Spin by Joel Eisenberg.
